Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital, also known as Kalafong Hospital, is a public healthcare facility situated on the western outskirts of Pretoria, in the suburb of Atteridgeville, Gauteng, South Africa.
A brief history about
Kalafong hospital.
The story of Kalafong Hospital began with the commencement of its construction in 1965. After seven years of careful planning and building, the hospital started providing patient treatment on March 1, 1972. The hospital was officially inaugurated by the Honourable Mr Sybrand van Niekerk, then Administrator of the Transvaal, on March 9, 1973.
The Establishment and Its Services
The hospital has grown over the years to become a significant part of the South African healthcare system. It operates as a community and teaching hospital with an impressive capacity of 1,113 beds. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department equipped to manage various health emergencies. Kalafong Hospital is also an integral part of the educational infrastructure supporting the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria. The hospital serves as a training institution where future healthcare professionals receive practical instruction and gain invaluable experience in their respective fields.
